2021 $1000 Scholarship Winners

Bansi Govin is the daughter of Raksha and Alpesh Govin. She is a senior at Madison Academic High School and is the recipient of a $1000 scholarship. She plans to attend the University of Memphis and intends to major in biology, biomedical engineering, and psychology, with a career interest in prosthetic design. In 2017, Bansi was selected as a National Ambassador for the "Do the Write Thing Challenge," a youth violence prevention program for middle school students. She represented JMCSS during the National Recognition Week in Washington, D.C., and her essay was published and is archived at the Library of Congress. She has been involved in Girl Scouts since she was in kindergarten, and one of her articles was published in the Girl Scout Heart of the South Magazine. In addition to Girl Scouts, Bansi is a member of the Medical Explorers Club and is a Junior Volunteer at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. She has also volunteered at the Jackson Humane Society and Hands Up! Preschool. Bansi has played on several state soccer championship teams and is a state certified soccer official.

 

Sarah Wilson is also a senior at Madison Academic High School and is the recipient of a $1000 scholarship. She is the daughter of Wilson Mathai and Tina Wilson. She plans to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham and become a physician. Sarah is first in her class. She is the president of the National Honor Society at MAHS and is an officer of the Chemistry Club and Environmental Club and is captain of the varsity tennis team. She has volunteered at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital, the Kids' Ministry at Fellowship Bible Church, RIFA's Soup Kitchen, and Gigi's Playhouse working with children with Down Syndrome. Sarah is a graduate of 2020 Leadership University, was nominated to the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists, and participated in the Hugh O'Brian Leadership Forum in Nashville, the National Youth Leadership Forum for Advanced Medicine and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, and the National Youth Leadership Forum for STEM at Emory University. She was on MAHS's award winning 2020 Academic Decathlon Competition team.

Maya Bridgeman, a senior at North Side High School, is also a recipient of a $1000 award. She is the daughter of Jason and Chontel Bridgeman. She plans to attend Rhodes College and major in psychology and pre-law. Maya has been very involved at her school and in the community. She is currently North Side's National Honor Society President, Beta Club President, Captain of the Cheerleading Team, and is a member of the Student Council. She represents North Side on Jackson Mayor's Council and on the Youth Advisory Counsel and was a member of the Tennessee School Boards Association Student Congress on Policies in Education in 2019 and 2020. As part of Madison County's Trial Court in 2020, she worked under the guidance of Chancellor James Butler. This experience piqued her interest in becoming a lawyer who makes a positive impact in the lives of children. She intends to volunteer with foster care agencies while she is in college.
